There are more than 15 million registered motor vehicles in New Zealand – that’s nearly one for every single person. When a vehicle comes to the end of its lifespan, it is therefore very important to make sure it is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
Here at Wellywreckers, we take car recycling very seriously – after all, it’s our job! We begin by dismantling the vehicle so that we can remove any spare parts that are in good working order.
Once working parts are removed, we then drain the vehicle of any fluids (petrol, oil, brake fluid and so forth). We also remove any hazardous materials such as the battery, mercury, and sodium aside (this is the propellant used in air bag systems). These materials are disposed of in the correct manner to reduce the environmental impact and risk of contamination.
With parts, fluids and hazardous materials removed, we are essentially left with the ‘shell’ of the car. This is crushed and passed on to a steel recycling company where it is melted down and reused in a vast range of products. At the end of our car recycling process, very little is left to go into landfill. More than 75% of a vehicle can be recycled in some way or another, which is why cars remain one of the most-recycled consumer products.
At Wellywreckers, we dismantle vehicles in the best possible way using the appropriate tools, in order to minimize our environmental impact. If you have a car that you want removed, why not choose a company that offers an eco-friendly wrecking service? We collect cars from all over Victoria, and therefore offer car recycling for those in Porirua, Levin, Paraparaumu, Kapiti, and Wairarapa. and most surrounding areas.
